One of the greatest joys of living in Siouxland is watching small businesses grow and thrive—and Malli’s La Casa Del Taco is a shining example. What started as a humble food truck is now one of the area’s most beloved go-to spots for authentic, flavor-packed Mexican food—and I’ve loved following their journey every delicious step of the way.
🚚 From Turquoise Food Truck to Tri-State Staple
If you’ve ever spotted a bright turquoise blue food truck at a local craft fair or event, chances are you’ve already experienced the magic of Malli’s. Over the years, I’ve enjoyed their tacos 🌮, birria 🥩, and fresh salsa 🌶️ at pop-ups across the area—and let me tell you, they never disappoint.
So when I heard they’d officially opened a brick-and-mortar location in South Sioux City, Nebraska, I was beyond excited (and a little hungry 😄). This move felt like the natural next step for a team that’s always prioritized quality, flavor, and community connection.

🍽️ Authentic Flavors & Thoughtful Presentation
At Malli’s, you’re not just getting a meal—you’re getting a true culinary experience. Led by the passionate and talented Maria Nuno Gutierrez, the team takes pride in not cutting corners, using authentic ingredients, and experimenting with bold spices to put their own spin on traditional dishes.
They’ve built a cult following around the tri-state area for good reason:
✅ Bold, unforgettable flavors
✅ Affordable, competitive pricing
✅ Friendly and consistent customer service
✅ And an unwavering commitment to their roots
Though their food truck is now primarily used for private catering, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it make an appearance at local events again—after all, it’s part of what made Malli’s such a household name in the first place!

🖼️ A Feast for the Senses – Inside the New Location
I recently visited their new spot and WOW—it’s just as delightful as their menu. The interior is bright, colorful, and full of cultural pride.
Here’s what stood out to me:
- 🌈 Vibrant decor that immediately makes you feel at home
- 🖌️ A giant Frida Kahlo portrait that dominates the room in the best way
- 🪵 Beautiful exposed wood beams
- 🎨 Hand-painted napkin holders and wall art depicting everyday scenes from Mexico
The vibe is welcoming, artistic, and full of life—just like the food they serve.
🥗 What’s on My Must-Try List
While I’m still daydreaming about their birria and tacos, I’m already planning my next visit with my husband. I’ve got my sights set on:
- 🌵 Cactus Salad – something you don’t see often and done right at Malli’s
- 🍫 Mole Enchiladas – rich, savory, and spiced to perfection
I love how they’re not afraid to celebrate their heritage through bold, unique flavors—and how every dish feels like a love letter to their culture.

🤝 Supporting Community & Culture
What makes Malli’s even more special is how committed they are to giving back to the community. Maria and her team actively collaborate with other small businesses and work hard to raise awareness and appreciation for Hispanic culture across Siouxland. Their support of fellow entrepreneurs and celebration of tradition is something we should all rally behind.
